New Works Festival

Renaissance City Rep's (R)evolutions New Works Festival is dedicated to fostering new play development. A playwright is paired with a dramaturg to further develop the playwright's new play. The play is then workshopped with a director and cast and presented to the public in a staged reading. Each reading is followed by a facilitated talkback with the audience.

Crossing Borders

RC Rep’s new works festival, (R)evolutions, launched in 2023. It's first season explored new plays that literally or metaphorically looked at the theme of crossing borders.

Borders can be geographical, racial, political, emotional, sexual, gender-related, etc.

Borders can be obstacles or opportunities.

Borders can create, reveal, and mend conflict.

RC Rep put a call out for new plays in January 2023, and selected two plays (from 75 submissions!) to move forward toward development. The two playwrights were each paired with a dramaturg, director, and a cast. Together, they workshopped the play and presented a staged reading to Michigan audiences in a public performance on May 30 and 31, 2023 at Oakland University's West Campus in Auburn Hills, MI.
