AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

In collaboration with the City of Auburn Hills, Renaissance City Repertory Theatre is proud to present William Shakespeare’s comedic romp The Comedy of Errors. This 90-minute version will be produced on the outdoor stage of the Auburn Hills Knight Amphitheater in Riverside Park. This production will not only inaugurate RC Rep’s summer ‘Alarums and Excursions Series’ that offers FREE theatre to our patrons, but represents the theatre company’s premiere production as well.

AUDITION BREAKDOWN:

 

We are looking for a fierce ensemble of actors unafraid to throw themselves into the comedic fray! Casting for every role is open. RC Rep is committed to diversity and encourages performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, ages, and performers with disabilities to audition. At this point we will only be offering Non-Equity contracts.

 

What Should I Bring and Prepare? 

 

Glad you asked! 

 

  1. Headshot and Resume

  2. Please prepare ONE comedic monologue from Shakespeare’s canon. No more than 90 seconds. 

  3. In addition, please prepare a short demonstration or ‘bit’ of physical comedy. It can involve (but is not limited to!) a prop, a costume piece, music or sound, your body, or puppets. No text though!

  4. **If you are unable to make one of the in-person audition times, you are welcome to submit a video audition by end of day on Wednesday June 22nd. . Please email your submission to info@rcrep.org. If there are any specific instructions required to access your submission, please let us know.**

The Comedy of Errors

 

Multiplicity runs rampant in the city of Ephesus where two sets of twins, separated at birth, inadvertently and unknowingly encounter one another...subsequently throwing everyone's life into chaos! William Shakespeare's comedic farce of mistaken identity speaks to a contemporary world in crisis. A world where identity is lost and found, relations are fractured and mended and everything in-between is beautifully complicated.

 

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

 

Duke or Duchess of Ephesus – a Duke or Duchess; any gender/race/ethnicity

Egeon – a businessman of Syracuse; male identifying; any race/ethnicity

Antipholus of Syracuse – a businessperson; male identifying; any gender/race/ethnicity

Antipholus of Ephesus –  a businessperson; male identifying; any gender/race/ethnicity

Dromio of Syracuse – an attendant to Antipholus of Syracuse; any gender/race/ethnicity 

Dromio of Ephesus –  an attendant to Antipholus of Ephesus; any gender/race/ethnicity

Adriana – wife of Antipholus of Ephesus; female identifying; may be played by any gender/race/ethnicity

Luciana – Adriana’s sister; female identifying; may be played by any gender/race/ethnicity 

Luce – Adriana’s kitchen maid; any gender/race/ethnicity

Doctor Pinch – a ‘conjurer’; any gender/race/ethnicity

Balthasar – a businessperson; any gender/race/ethnicity

Angelo – a jeweler; any gender/race/ethnicity

Abbess –  Amelia, wife of Egeon; female identifying; may be played by any gender/race/ethnicity  

A Jailer, An Officer, A Messenger, A Courtesan, Merchants - any gender/race/ethnicity

 

**Aside from those cast as Dromio and Antipholus, ensemble members will play multiple roles in the production.

Rehearsals:

When: Thursday August 4th – Saturday August 20th

  • Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday-Sunday; rehearsal times will be dependent on actor schedules. 

  • Tech/Dress Rehearsals will take place the week of August 21st at the venue.

 

Where: Oakland University

 

*Actors must be FULLY vaccinated two weeks prior to the start of rehearsals and will be asked to present their vaccination card to management. 

 

*RC Rep is unable to provide out-of-town housing for actors.

 

**Intimacy Protocols will be in place throughout the rehearsal process and performances.
